Frequently Asked Questions
System Requirements
Will your software run on NetWare 5.x or newer with NW Cluster services installed?
Installing AdRem Software products on clustered servers will not negatively affect either the stability or the processes running on these servers. However, we recommend that you download the trial and test the product in your environment. In a few configurations, some minor program functions may not be available on the cluster.
What systems does AdRem Server Manager support?
AdRem Server Manager runs now on Windows XP/Vista (except Home editions) and Windows Server 2003/2008 operating systems and allows for the administration of Novell servers running Open Enterprise Server (NetWare kernel) and NetWare 4.x, 5.x and 6.x and Open Enterprise Server Linux 1.x or higher.
Upgrading and Updating
How can I upgrade/update the product? Where can I download the update?
If you would like to update your purchased version of sfConsole, you can download the update from the link in the e-mail we sent you containing your license file. If you still haven't received credentials needed to access the AdRem customer portal, please contact us at orders@adremsoft.com
Next you need to follow the instructions contained in Server Manager License or Site License Installation Manuals at Documents page.
If you are using a demo and would like to upgrade it, please go to Downloads page
What changes have been introduced in the latest release? Do I have to update to the latest one?
Yes, we always recommend to update the product to current version. For information about new features in latest release please visit Server Manager Whats's New page.
Gathering Statistics
Is it possible to gather the server statistics without keeping Server Manager running on the workstation?
Server Manager collects server statistics onto the workstation. If it is not running, it is impossible to gather data from the server.
How can I gather statistics from many servers to analyze their trends?
You simply need to open the Server Manager Monitor window. Once you have done so, Server Manager will collect data for each server in the list that has the active status (marked with the green icon). This way, you will be able to combine data from multiple servers into one set of statistics displayed in a single screen.
Demo Evaluation
How can I remove the demo version from NetWare server?
To remove the demo version from NetWare server you have to delete the proper NetWare Loadable Module (NLM) from the server and delete the line from the autoexec.ncf file (located in SYS:SYSTEM server directory). Unload and remove SMAGENT.NLM from the SYS:SYSTEM directory and the related lines form the autoexec.ncf.
I have installed the demo and it has expired. How can I evaluate the product longer?
If you need more time to evaluate the product, please e-mail the sales department at sales@adremsoft.com or call (212)319-4114 and ask to speak to Sales.
I have downloaded the evaluation version but can't find 'nwserver.exe' to install it to a server. Where is it?
Our software is always installed from the workstation. This includes all server-side components such as the required NLMs.
Error Messages and Other
Which port number do I have to open on my firewall to connect via WAN?
AdRem Server Manager uses the same port as the Novell Client - port 524. You need to open this port.
Can I be notified by an alert if something wrong happens with my server (e.g. an Abend occurs)?
No. The current version of Server Manager does not provide alerting capabilities. However, you can use AdRem's cross-platform monitoring solution called NetCrunch that offers extensive alerting capabilities.
I have received a message entitled "Error 8884". What does this mean?
Error 8884 means that the given server could not be found. Check the connection to the server. You can log in to the server using your workstation NetWare Client, or type in the server IP address in the server name field.
I have received the following message: "NLM not loaded or NCP connection lost (Code: 89FF)".
Please check if you have sufficient rights to operate on this server. Check the connection to the server and be sure that the server is on.
