Connecting new GrafCrunch to multiple NetCrunch servers

It is now possible to have multiple servers as data sources in your GrafCrunch application. Learn how to include them and create graphs from different data sources.

In this article we will explain how to include multiple servers as Data Sources in GrafCrunch.

Adding new sources or servers

To add new sources, you need at least version 9.2.0.3801 of the GrafCrunch application. After logging in to the application, click the tab "Data Sources" and select "Add new".

Data Sources, Add new

Now enter a Name and select the Type of your new source.

Select Name and Type

Furthermore, the server details and credentials are required to access the source. This has to be confirmed by clicking the "Add" button.

Enter credentials, press Add

After clicking "Add" the data source will be added to the existing ones. By clicking "Test Connection" you are able to test if your server settings and credentials are valid.

Test Connection

In case of a successful connection the "Test results" will be highlighted in green, in case of an error the text will be red. "Use SSL" is only possible if the server has been configured to accordingly. Therefore, if i.e. the server required SSL in this example, the "Test Connection" would have failed. By clicking "Save" all entered data will be confirmed and saved for this data source.

Test successful, save

Create dashboards and graphs with the new source

Now we will add a new dashboard to our existing ones for displaying the monitoring data from the new source.

New Dashboard

The settings of this new dashboard can be changed by clicking the gear icon on the top of the page. To add a new graph, we follow the usual steps: hovering over the green Icon, and selecting "Add Panel" -> "Graph".

Edit dashboard for Title and add new Graph

To create a graph of the new data source, go to the lower right corner of the graph editor and select your new data source. Then continue by selecting the node and counter.

Select New data source, node and counter

The newly created graph can be edited like usual, for example by changing the title of the graph at the tab "General", selecting descriptions for the Axes etc. Changes made should be saved by clicking the "Save" icon at the top of the window.

Configure your Graph

Create elements in the existing dashboards

It is also possible to add graphs or other elements of the new data source to already existing dashboards. To do this, you have to navigate to the required dashboard.

Adding to existing dashboard

Here, click "+ADD ROW" to add a new row for an element. Then hover over the green icon, select "Add Panel>" and the desired element. In this example, we add a "Single stat".

ADD ROW, select single stat

Select your data source, the monitored node and the corresponding counter. This element can also be configured as usual by editing the conditions at the tabs "General" and "Options". To save your changes, click the "Save" icon on top of the window.

Configure your stat as desired

Now you have a "Single stat" for your already existing and your new data source in one dashboard. Make sure to use clear descriptions of the pictured counters, and save your dashboard before exiting GrafCrunch.

Save

In this manner, it is possible to add a variety of variables from different data sources to your GrafCrunch application.
