Operating System Performance Monitoring
The program enables agentless monitoring of workstations and servers (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, BSD, NetWare) from a unified interface. NetCrunch requires administrator credentials to connect to servers and workstations to gather performance counters statistics.
Windows
NetCrunch uses a remote connection to the Windows system to monitor its performance. By retrieving performance counters available in Windows, NetCrunch can track and alert on issues affecting Windows server health.
List of commonly measured parameters:
- CPU, memory, disk usage
- Print jobs and queues
- Processes, jobs
- Windows NT services and applications (e.g. MS SQL, Exchange, IIS, and Active Directory)
- Directory and file system
- Network utilization
Additionally NetCrunch gathers data from Windows Event Log.
Linux
NetCrunch supports agentless monitoring of Linux systems based on kernel 2.4 and newer. It can track over 100 performance counters to determine the health of Linux servers.
List of commonly measured parameters:
- CPU (usage, system vs. users, per process)
- Memory (current, free, per process)
- Disk utilization
- Processes (existence, resources: CPU, memory)
- Network (bytes sent/received/transmitted, current bandwidth, interface errors)
- Network services (availability and performance)
Mac OS X
NetCrunch offers fully integrated Mac OS X monitoring (Tiger and Leopard).
NetCrunch monitors:
- System (uptime/downtime, logged in users)
- Processor utilization,
- Memory usage,
- Disk usage,
- Network interface statistics,
- Processes (CPU, memory per process utilization)
- User (CPU, memory)
- TCP statistics
BSD
NetCrunch monitors FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD. For those systems retrieves BSD statistics such as:
- System (uptime/downtime, logged in users)
- Processor utilization,
- Memory usage,
- Disk usage,
- Network interface statistics,
- Processes (CPU, memory per process utilization)
- User (CPU, memory)
- TCP statistics
Other
For other UNIX-based systems, including HP-UX, Solaris, and AIX NetCrunch offers SNMP monitoring. For Novell NetWare offers extended monitoring from over 110 system performance counters.

NetWare
NetCrunch retrieves statistics about Novell NetWare servers from over 110 system performance counters.
Program tracks server subsystems and components, such as:
- CPU, memory, disk
- Print jobs and queues
- Processes, jobs and NLMs
- Directory and file system
- Network utilization
For NetWare monitoring NetCrunch uses SNMP or NCP (NCP with Novell Client).
