Mailbox monitoring in NetCrunch

Learn how NetCrunch can be used to make sure that the mail server is sending and receiving email messages.

Pre-Requisistes

NetCrunch Email Round-Trip sensor requires a dedicated mailbox located on the mail server that you want to be tested. That's because NetCrunch sends an email message, checks if it arrived in the mailbox, and then the test message is being cleared automatically.

Add Email Round-Trip sensor

Adding a sensor is pretty straightforward:

  1. Open node settings on the node where the mail server is installed (or add it to atlas), and click on + Add Monitoring Sensor
  2. Select Email Round-Trip sensor
  3. Type the name of the email in the first box.
  4. Set profile in Outgoing Connection
  5. Set profile in Incoming Connection (if IMAP4 is used, NetCrunch offers an option of selecting mailbox from the list of all available boxes)
mailbox configuration

Run a test to check whether the configuration is correct - click on the test button in the top right corner.

mailbox test

Save sensor and node settings. Your email server is now monitored and NetCrunch will notify you if email messages can't be sent or received.
