Configure NetCrunch Connection Cloud and Monitoring Probe to monitor virtual machines in Azure

Learn how to easily bridge monitoring of on-premise and cloud resources for comprehensive visibility - with minimal setup

Monitoring Azure VMs with NetCrunch Connection Cloud and Monitoring Probe makes monitoring your Azure VM environment simple and efficient. With NetCrunch Cloud Console, you don't have to worry about configuring a complex network infrastructure—just make sure TCP port 443 is open. This simple configuration allows you to easily monitor VM performance and connectivity, allowing you to focus more on monitoring and less on configuration.

Configuring NetCrunch to enable NetCrunch Connection Cloud

  1. In the NetCrunch administration console, select the Settings tab and enter Connections. With the slider, enable NetCrunch Connection Cloud and copy the link to the NetCrunch Web Console (you will only need your license number). NetCrunch Settings Tab NetCrunch Connection Cloud Configuration

Once the Monitoring Probe installation is complete on the selected Windows machine in Azure, you will start the configuration. See how to do it here:

A. Select Cloud Connection as the connection type and then paste the link copied in the previous step (NetCrunch Web Console). Remove the redundant part of the link and add @. The correct NetCrunch Server address is @ABC-123-DEF. Click Connect.

B. Now configure a new Monitoring Probe Node and create a new Site.

Here's how to do it:

Give the Probe a name, select the type of Site as Remote, and give the Site a name. Then click Register.

Create new probe node

As a result, a new Page with the name you defined earlier will appear in the Atlas tree.

If you want to monitor virtual machines in Azure, you need to keep in mind several aspects;

  • use local IP addresses of monitored VMs, not public ones
  • remember to prepare the machines for monitoring according to NetCrunch documentation recommendations. https://www.adremsoft.com/adoc/view/netcrunch/391497132323/windows-monitoring-setup
  • Your firewall must have open (as in the documentation) ports for the IP address of the machine on which you installed the Monitoring Probe.
  • all monitored virtual machines must be accessible to the Monitoring Probe
