Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a widely used protocol for establishing a secure, fully encrypted remote connection.
Specifically, the method utilizes public-key cryptography to generate and securely exchange a session key for symmetric encryption.
The SSL cannot be used until a certificate is obtained from a Web-based certification authority (CA). For testing purposes, NetCrunch provides a root certificate that verifies the validity of the certification authority (CA) that issued the certification file for the machine on which the program is running.
Self-signed certificates are not trusted by browsers, which results in "warning messages" even though they can be used for encryption. Therefore, to avoid certificate error messages, the user must obtain the security certificate from a trusted certificate authority.
