Control Action Types

The Control actions allow you to change the state of a node, its services, properties, or processes running on the device generating the event, NetCrunch, or the selected node. During configuration of these action types, the Edit Action Parameters window is opened. It consists of various parameters, depending on the selected control action.

Computers

The group contains the following actions:

Windows

Allows executing the selected script, such as starting or stopping the SNMP service, deleting the virtual drive, running the disc defragmenter, or terminating the Notepad.exe process.

Linux

Allows executing the selected script, such as restarting or shutting down the machine, restarting the SNMP Daemon, sending memory/network status, and processes list, and mounting/dismounting the CD-ROM.

Any OS

Restart or Shut Down the Computer

Performs a restart or shutdown of a computer. You can perform this action directly on the node that caused the event or on any other node in the atlas.

Run Windows Program, Run Windows Script, Run SSH Script

Involves running an external program or script to help solve the detected problem. Please note that the program/script may be executed locally (on the machine where it runs) or remotely (on the node where the alert was generated). An alert that executes a program/script locally on the same machine running NetCrunch Server means you can immediately use other applications to notify you or perform other useful tasks. Defining a remote program/script alert action lets you take preventive or corrective actions, for example, fixing the problem on the actual node where the event occurred. Please note that to run a program or script on the selected node, the appropriate credentials must be provided.

Other

Set SNMP Variable

Use this type of action when you need to set a particular SNMP variable on the node causing the event or any other node of the current atlas. Specifically, you can select a particular OID of the desired SNMP variable from the MIB database or enter its value directly. You can also set an SNMP variable in a hexadecimal format instead of an integer.

Terminate Windows Process

The ability to terminate any previously indicated process of a Windows node. Of course, you can terminate a process on the actual Windows node causing the event, or on another Windows node in the atlas.

Start, Stop, Pause Windows Service

For Windows nodes (either the node causing the event or another node of the atlas), you can additionally perform an action related to controlling any of its Windows services. Specifically, you can start, stop, pause, restart, or continue a selected Windows service for a node.

Wake on LAN

This action is used to switch on a computer remotely via a Wake on LAN command (through special network packets).

NetCrunch Actions

The NetCrunch group contains the following actions:

Change Node Monitoring State

Allows enabling/disabling node monitoring, or disabling node monitoring for a specified time only. The action can be assigned to the node that caused the event or to another node in the atlas.

Change Node Monitoring Time

An action sets the node or chosen performance monitor monitoring time to the entered value of minutes or resets it to the default. The action can be assigned to the node causing the event or to another atlas node.

Modify Node Issue List

This action allows setting or clearing issues on a node. You can select the appropriate option and provide custom information in the Issue Source field of the Edit Action Parameters window. This information will appear in the Monitoring Issues window. In the Reason field, you can provide a short message, which will be displayed in the Info field of the Event Log window and tooltip.

Modify Node Custom Field

This action allows setting or clearing the content of the node custom field (visible in the Node Settings window/Properties tab in the Details section). After you choose the field, you can either provide a custom value and event parameter to enter there, or use the event info. The action can be assigned to the node causing the event or to another atlas node.

Set Issue

Action will be executed to add the issue to the node issue list.

Clear Issue

Action will be executed to clear the issue from the node issue list.

Note When editing the action properties, specify the node for which the action will be performed. From the drop-down list, you can choose the node running NetCrunch, the node causing the event, or any other node of choice from the atlas.
