How to define alerts used for monitoring ESX servers and/or virtual machines

Applies to 12.x 11.x 10.x 9.x

  1. Go to Monitoring->Monitoring Packs & Policies->VMware.
  2. Select desired monitoring pack or create new one by click New Monitoring Pack. Make sure that in Monitoring Pack Settings on Monitoring Pack tab VMware ESX only is selected.
  3. On Alerting & Reporting tab click the Add Alert button in Monitoring Pack Settings window. Add Monitoring Event window displays.
  4. To add event to alerts list, double-click the selected event. You can choose from predefined events, or simply create New Event. For new events you have to provide the desired selections in Alerting Rule window related to the event preparation conditions. Added events display on Alerts tab in the Monitoring Pack Settings window.
  5. To define actions right click on created event and choose Edit Alerting Script. Edit Alerting Script window displays.
  6. Click Add button and choose one of three action execution options: immediately, after specified time or on alert close. The Add Action window displays.
  7. Double-click to select the action. Edit Action Parameters window displays.
  8. Edit the action parameters and click OK.
  9. If you end editing alerting script simply click OK.
  10. To save changes click OK on Monitoring Pack Settings and also on Monitoring Packs & Policies window.
