NetCrunch v15

NetCrunch Licensing

NetCrunch licensing is node-based and allows monitoring of switch port interfaces whose number equals or is lower than the number of nodes.

Node License
NetCrunch licensing is based on the number of nodes, but we also count the number of monitored interfaces. If the number of monitored interfaces exceeds the number of nodes, additional interface licenses are required for the excess interfaces.

For instance, with a license for 500 nodes, you can monitor 500 nodes AND 500 interfaces. If you want to monitor 500 nodes and 700 interfaces, you'll need 500 node licenses AND an additional 200 interface license for the excess.

If you do not monitor switches only, then you only look for the total number of monitored nodes (devices). In other cases, If you want to monitor layer 2 connections of your switches, then you need a license covering the total number of switch ports that you wish to monitor that exceeds the total number of switches.

Additive

NetCrunch licenses are additive. This means that, for example, if you purchase a 100 node/interface license and then decide to get a 50 node/interface license, you will have a total of 150 nodes/interfaces license. You can purchase an additional node pack at any time and add it to your NetCrunch - no need to reinstall or software restart, you just need to refresh the license.

Interface Monitoring

By default, interface monitoring is enabled only on SNMP devices. However, interface monitoring can be enabled on all monitored nodes, if desired. Interface monitoring can be adjusted on a per-node basis within NetCrunch preferences.

By default, only All Active type interfaces are monitored. 'Other' or 'Loopback' type interfaces do not count for license size unless you adjust the monitoring schema manually.

It's possible to create an interface monitoring schema to include only interfaces that match the filter you need.
