A node that is running an SNMP agent is SNMP-manageable. NetCrunch can monitor nodes using SNMP.
Network discovery process
During the network discovery process, you can specify that you want to discover SNMP manageable nodes. In such a case, NetCrunch identifies the SNMP-manageable nodes, enables SNMP monitoring in the program for those nodes, and adds them to the SNMP tab of the Atlas window.
SNMP management properties
Changing the SNMP management properties on selected nodes is done from the SNMP tab of the Properties window. When the SNMP manageable host option is enabled, the node appears in the SNMP view of the Main window, and the user can modify the additional parameters necessary to manage SNMP information on the selected node.
If the SNMP management of a node is enabled, then the node will appear in the SNMP view of any map. If the correct Read SNMP Properties are specified in the SNMP profile, then SNMP information about the node can be viewed by opening the SNMP View window.
If the correct Write SNMP Properties are specified in the SNMP profile, you can additionally modify some of the SNMP information about the node.
Discovering the SNMP Profile
You can check and manage SNMP profiles for the devices in the Atlas:
- From the toolbar menu, select
Settings->Monitoring->Node Monitoring Defaults. - Verify the profile under the SNMP section.
- Click the Manage SNMP Profiles link for viewing/editing SNMP profile details. You can also add a new SNMP profile by clicking the
Add SNMP Profilebutton. - Click
OKto save the changes.
