Monitoring bandwidth usage in real-time

What is available out of the box and where I need more configuration?

Applies to 12.x 11.x 10.x

Primary bandwidth utilization monitoring is available as part of SNMP monitoring. You only need to have proper SNMP profiles configured in NetCrunch. For flow monitoring, you need to do more configuration.

SNMP profiles can be provided during initial atlas creation or any time later in Monitoring->SNMP Communities and Passwords. For real-time monitoring, use Physical Segments map with traffic volume calculated per link and displayed there - by clicking on the When done, the trends for monitored interfaces are available in the Bandwidth Utilization performance view section or in the Trend Viewer.

If you need a more granular, per device view of bandwidth usage, each switch or router has its own trends view for their respective interfaces. Go to Node Status->Performance, Node Status-> Interfaces.

Finally, for more detailed information about the traffic, you can use Flow monitoring. Your device has to support NetFlow or sFlow. Read more about NetFlow traffic monitoring.

To track changes of the interface status (UP/DOWN) on your infrastructure devices (or all SNMP devices), you can simply add Interface "Down" alerts at Monitoring->Monitoring Packs & Policies to the predefined Network Traffic (SNMP) monitoring pack.
