How to change program maintenance options (7.x-8.x)

Applies to 8.x 7.x

Tools->Options->General options->Maintenance

The Maintenance page of the Options window allows the configuration of several program settings related to atlas backup and program maintenance:

  • selecting the number of days after which events older than what is specified in this setting will be automatically deleted from the Event Log database,
  • selecting the number of days after which trends older than what is specified in this setting will be automatically deleted from the appropriate directory path,
  • specifying for how long to keep Web Access session logs before discarding them,
  • changing the default atlas backup path to another location. The path specified here will be used in the atlas maintenance; in other words, for saving the '.NCB' file during atlas backup and also used for retrieving this file during the atlas restore operation.

Two first settings allow avoiding a situation where NetCrunch utilizes too much of hard disk space for its gathered trends and generated events.

To change maintenance options:

  1. Select Tools->Options->General options->Maintenance from the main program menu.
  2. In the Max Event Age field, enter the number of days after which generated events older than this value should be deleted from the Event Log database.
  3. To indicate that oldest trends should be removed, select the Maximum Trend Data Age check box.
  4. In the field just below, enter the number of days for which trends are to be kept.
  5. In the Maximum Remote Access Audit Log Age field, enter the number of days after which Remote Access sessions logs should be removed.
  6. In the Backup data location field either enter directly the new path where the backup files are to be stored or use the Browse for Directory icon to browse for a specific path.
  7. Click OK.

Note: To keep all trends gathered in the program, clear the Maximum Trend Data Age check box.

After the initial NetCrunch installation the default atlas backup path will be set to...\data\backup.

Reports selected in the Report Viewer program for generating with a specific date in the past will contain data according to the specified options in the Maintenance tab.

In order to speed up the process of creation backup copies, it is suggested to select a different physical drive from the one selected for saving monitoring data during the installation process.

Changing the path for backup files is not available from remote NetCrunch Administration Console.
