Monitoring http links/pages in NetCrunch

Yes, NetCrunch has a built-in monitor for web pages. It can be defined in two ways:

1st Method:

1. From menu Actions->Monitoring select 'Monitor Web Page' option.
2. Type in address of the web page you would like to monitor, in 'URL' field.
3. You can monitor webpage only by checking its header (it saves bandwidth). To do that enable 'Check page header only' option.
4. Click Next
5. NetCrunch can monitor web page by checking its presence only or by checking HTTP response content. (Note: With checking web page presence only, you can select error codes like 4xx).
6. click OK

NetCrunch will add a new device that represents monitored web page. There will be a new event to monitor web page defined on this device).

You can receive an email when this event is generated. For more details refer to article Setting up corrective action

2nd Method:

1. Select node with HTTP Server running on
2. Righclick and select Monitoring->Network Services->Properties
3. Doubleclick on HTTP network service
4. Change 'Monitoring Level' from 'Basic' to 'Advanced'
5. Then click 'Add URL path' button and type in web page address you want to monitor
6. Click 'OK' twice when done.

IMPORTANT: This method requires adding events manually.

To do that, follow the steps below:

1. Rightclick on node and select Alerting->Edit Node Alerting Policy
2. Click 'Add' button to add an event
3. From 'Web Page' tab, select one of the events you would like to monitor (i.e. Page does not exist on the server)
4. Select 'URL' from pull down menu. (Note: It should be the same URL that you specified above, in network service definition)
5. Click 'OK' twice when done

In order to be notified, when monitored web page does not exist, add notification action like email or sms. For detailed explanation please refer to article #1310248
