How to set up a threshold alert based on bytes sent/received on specific port on a switch

Applies to 7.x

  1. Go to Node settings->Alerts & Reports-> Manage Node Alerts and Reports->Add Alert icon-> SNMP tab->Create New SNMP Performance Threshold link ->Edit Event Definition window.
  2. Type in a Description or a general name for the event.
  3. To select counter, click on the performance counter blue text. Select Performance Counter window displays.
  4. Click the Selection icon. Add SNMP Counter windows displays.
  5. From the Performance object pull down menu, select Interfaces.
  6. In the left hand side list select Bytes sent or Bytes received option.
  7. In Select instance from list, select port: for example: RMON PORT 3 on UNIT 2. Click Add.
  8. Click OK in the Select Performance Counter window.
  9. In the Edit Event Definition window set acceptable value (for example 1000000 bytes) and click OK.
  10. Double click the defined event to add an action.
