How to graph bytes sent/bytes received on an individual port of a switch on performance charts?

Can I monitor throughput on a switch or router ?

Applies to 6.x

Complete these steps and use SNMP to monitor bytes sent, bytes received, bytes transmitted, etc. in a real time performance chart.

To set up a chart, go to Performance Views

  1. Right click on Performance View-->New-->Blank Chart View.

  2. in any working space, Right click New-->Chart.

  3. in next window, Select the node, click next (note: Switch needs to be SNMP enabled)

  4. in next window, click 'Add Counter' button and select SNMP Performance Counters(Predefined counters)
  5. Under Performance Object heading select "Interfaces"
  6. In the left hand list select "bytes sent" or "bytes received"
  7. In the right hand list under "Select instance from list", select port (example: RMON PORT 3 on UNIT 2)
  8. click OK
