  2. if the device is SNMP capable, make sure 'Automatically identify node...' option is checked
  3. select node for which the new device type should be created 4.click 'Next' twice
  4. select appropriate device class, manufacturer and model (Note: if there is no proper records, simply type in your custom information)
  5. select default icon for newly created device type
  6. click 'OK' when done

2nd Method

I. Get SysobjID

The best method to get SysObjID from SNMP device is to use tool (iTools) that is provided with NetCrunch. Below are the steps how to use it:

  1. Start iTools and switch to SNMP tab
  2. Switch to MIB Browser on the left panel
  3. Browse to: 'iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.system' and select 'sysObjectID'.
  4. type in IP address of desired device and hit 'Run' button
  5. Copy value returned in iTools.

II. NetCrunch Device List Editor (Actions -> Manage device types)

  1. click 'Add Device Definition' button to add a new device type
  2. Paste previously copied value into 'SysObjectID' field
  3. Select appropriate Device Class and Manufacturer and model (Note: If there is no proper record on the list, simply type it in)
  4. Click 'OK' when done
  5. Once a new type is created, double click on it and set up an icon.
  6. Click 'Yes' while closing window, to save changes.
