There are two ways to send pages: via modem (TAP protocol) and via internet (SNPP protocol). NetCrunch has a built-in support only for TAP and SNPP. The TAP communication requires modems on both sides (sender and provider). For the pager notification via modem, three settings need to be configured.
You can configure this globally from the Tools->Options->Notification->Pager menu or "on-the-fly" when you are setting up an action. From either menu:
- the modem device to be used on the computer where NetCrunch is running must be selected using a drop-down list
- the number of dial attempts by the modem must also be specified
- finally, the TAP service must be configured and selected also from the pull down menu.
When you are configuring pager "on-the-fly", there is a test button that will send a test page.
Please note NetCrunch does not support init strings (should your provider require one). You may test paging using a third party program such as NotePager Pro. You can see in the NotePage Pro log if an init string is required.
SNPP does not require external modem configuration which makes it a little easier. The provider can be set up globally from the Tools->Options->Notification->Pager menu or "on-the-fly" when you are setting up an action.
