Thresholds - Setting up Windows Performance thresholds

How do I monitor my MS Exchange server and set up a threshold alert for Windows Performance counters such as Mail Queue Size, Delayed Queues, Messages submitted per minute, etc. ?

Applies to 6.x

First, make sure that Windows monitoring is enabled and NetCrunch is successfully logged in on remote machine:

  1. rightclick on the device, select Monitoring->Windows Performance
  2. check [x] next to Enable
  3. place a check mark next to Monitor Windows Services

Then create the Threshold level event:

  1. right click on the node, select Alerting->Edit Node Alerting Policy
  2. click 'Add' button to add an event
  3. from 'Windows' tab, select 'Windows Application Performance Threshold'
  4. type in a general name for the event
  5. click on the blue text 'Performance counter' to select Windows counter
  6. select Performance Object (like MSExchangeIS mailbox)
  7. select counter (like Send Queue Size), click 'Add'
  8. set up the threshold
  9. click 'OK' when done

You've just defined the Event - now create the alert, to see the remainder of the steps see related articles: Configuring an Alert or Configuring an Action
